Dali the Dachshund Bites Off More Than He Can Chew

Dali, a 7-year-old Daschund, was admitted for an exploratory surgery at Kensington Veterinary Clinic on the suspicion that he had ingested some clothing. While most dogs are naturally curious, sometimes curiosity gets the better of them and obstruction can occur if foreign matter is unable to pass the intestinal tract.
In Dali’s case, x-rays confirmed there was a blockage in his stomach and small intestine, which required surgery to investigate and treat.

The surgery was performed to remove the foreign material by Dr Kathy and Dr Leo, two of our amazing vets.

Dali recovered well post-operatively and was comfortable enough to be discharged later in the day with continuing pain relief the owner to administer at home.

If an owner suspects that their dog has ingested something that they shouldn’t have, they should seek veterinary attention as soon as possible to prevent further complications.

If an owner also knows that their dog will chew anything and everything if given the chance, they should try not leave their clothing or other small items unattended.
